The Nippon Communication Foundation was honored to welcome Arab Republic of Egypt Ambassador to Japan Mohamed Abubakr at our Tokyo office on July 4, 2025. The ambassador met with foundation president Akasaka Kiyotaka and discussed the long-standing friendship between Japan and Egypt and expressed enthusiasm for further deepening and strengthening cooperation across diverse fields, including culture, economics, and tourism. He spoke of the high regard Egyptians have of Japan, saying that Japan is seen as a trustworthy partner, particularly in the fields of education and medicine.
Egypt is among the top readership of the Arabic-language edition of Nippon.com. Ambassador Abubakr said that articles on topics like culture and medicine are especially popular, and that he himself gets information through the Arabic site’s social media channels and finds the editorial articles of the in-depth series particularly engaging.
The ambassador expressed his excitement for the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which was constructed near the Great Pyramids of Giza with the support of Japan and other countries. The facility opened its doors in 2023 on a limited scale with the grand opening scheduled to take place sometime this year. Ambassador Abubakr expressed his hope that Nippon.com would cover the event and publish articles highlighting the museum to encourage Japanese to visit Egypt.
