The Nippon Communication Foundation was honored to welcome Republic of Tunisia Ambassador to Japan Ahmed Chafra at our Tokyo office on June 10, 2025. The ambassador met with foundation president Akasaka Kiyotaka and discussed Japan-Tunisia relations, among other topics.
In 2026, Japan and Tunisia will celebrate 70 years since establishing diplomatic relations. Ambassador Chafra expressed hope for the continued prosperity of the two countries and looked forward to further expanding ties. He spoke about the popularity of Japanese anime among Tunisian children, particularly Captain Tsubasa (Captain Majid in Arabic), and said that Tunisians hold a deep interest in health and cuisine and are curious about Japanese food culture. He noted that Japan's experience in tackling such issues as its declining birthrate and aging population as well as its high level of medical care as providing valuable know-how and insight that can benefit Tunisia and other countries.
Ambassador Chafra showed deep interest in Nippon.com and the characteristics of each of the website’s languages. As French and Arabic are spoken in Tunisia, Tunisians account for a significant portion of the site’s readership in both languages.
